Hippo Cup and Maine Champion Series
Thomaston, Maine was the venue for the final of the 2015 Maine State Championship Series. A very tight race for the top spots resulted in an epic duel between Josh Saltmarsh and Hank Thorburn for MLC honors. Conditions were an absolute perfect 11-16 knots of wind out of the south. A small but talented and spirited group showed up to race with bluebird clear skies and temperatures in the upper 60’s. Colin Gowland won the regatta with Josh Saltmarsh second and Hank Thorburn third with just one point between them. Saltmarsh was able to finally clinch the Maine State Championship Series with this result combination and will be the man to beat in 2016! Stu Nickerson ended up in third place overall in the MLC with Tom Jamieson in fourth. Thanks to Mike Gaffney and Chris Biggart for running a spectacular final event. See you all next time!!

Below are the latest updates from Colin:
Hi All,
Hi All,
There’s been plenty of action so far in the 2015 Maine State Championship Series. Our first regatta was in Harpswell where local knowledge and boat handling prevailed as Hank Thorburn edged out Josh Saltmarsh to win the regatta. Stu Nickerson rounded out the top pack.
Harpswell, ME Maine State Championship Regatta #1
Next up in Portland 21 boats showed up to compete for the second regatta of the series. Peter Follansbee expressed his dominance for the second year in a row beating Jamie Carter by 4 points. Josh Saltmarsh recovered well after a rough couple of races to take third.
Portland, ME Maine State Championship Regatta #2
Overall the series is halfway through. Remember to count for the championship, you must sail 3 events. Josh Saltmarsh is currently leading the pack with Stu Nickerson and Hank Thorburn tied for second and third. Cam Lonkoski is not far behind in 4th and Tom Jamieson is currently in 5th. Sailors who have only sailed 1 event and do not show for Manchester will not be eligible for the series, so let’s see a everyone out for September 9th in Manchester, Maine.

Shout out to Camden Hills Regional High School Sailing Team
CHRHS is currently ranked 2nd in the state and 38th overall. This is amazing for a team that just started 4-5 years ago. Congrats to coaches Sam, Peter, Pat, Tori and our host sailing center, Rockland Community Sailing (RCS), for making this available to all of the students who want to sail!
